Purple and Grey Harley Gallery Visit

We would like to thank the Harley Gallery for hosting our group of artists today and for letting us all have an early morning tour of the Portland Collection before the public came in.
The Dukes of Portland and their families have amassed Welbeck’s historic Portland Collection over the centuries.

'Changing displays from The Collection are on show in our spacious new gallery, which opened in March 2016. Masterpieces include Michelangelo’s Madonna del Silenzio (c.1538). Also showing are  a rarely seen Van Dyck painting of Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford and George Stubbs’s painting of the 3rd Duke of Portland on horseback outside the stables at Welbeck. Further highlights include the pearl earring worn by Charles I at his execution in 1649, and The Portland Tiara by Cartier.' Find out more.

We were happy to find out that the Harley Gallery are shaking up their open this year by asking artists to bring their finished work to the gallery for judging they are having a broader approach too hoping to attract school aged artists as well as emerging and professional this will bring a more inclusive feel as well as making for a eclectic show. For more information about the Harley Open click here.

There are many events taking place at Harley Gallery throughout the year we recommend you sign up to their mailing list to keep updated.

We are planning visits to other galleries and local places of interest to artists next year please follow our blog to keep in the loop!
